Iqbal Wasn’t Selfish But We Are…

i clicked this picture on my last day in Pakistan.

It has been a freezing cold day and I was sitting in bank to see my personal banker. A boy came and sat beside me and got busy in filling some forms. “What is the date today?” a question-oriented voice hit my listening senses. I replied its November 9th. Boy suddenly responded, “Hay its Iqbal Day”. I smiled and nodded my head positively. It was pleasant for me to meet someone, who somehow remembers the importance of the date, here thousands of miles away from my land Pakistan. Yes, it was Iqbal day and by the way, I am writing this post many things might have been written, said, and broadcasted about this topic. In addition, by the time it will be posted it might be very late but still I cannot let this day go without writing and sharing anything about the person who are among those people that I love and respect the most.

The country that I proudly call my own country is the result of the dream of Iqbal – Dr Allama Muhammad Iqbal. But still today, we have not been able to meet what actually Iqbal wanted us to achieve. Many people are hapless with the way this country is being run and going to. However, I am not one of those, such people can be seen every time and everywhere as there were many people who made fun out of what Iqbal said at that time. Yes, we have proved our self dull enough that we have not been able to run this country that is far more precious than the most precious thing one can ever come across to. There is corruption, poor governance, indiscipline, and almost all kinds of bad things around us in Pakistan.

I accept all this but still I have one question? Is it a better approach to live with all the bad around and never try to change it because first of all one has to change itself. Is it good approach to declare your own country bad and failed? There are bad things and there are problems but who will solve them, Iqbal wanted us to live like and Eagle but we chose the way of Vultures, and result as clear to us all now. Iqbal gave us the concept of “Khudi” (self-realization and Self-dependence) and we made sure to prove beggary as our national activity.

It was not the dream of Iqbal and the direction we are traveling to will destroy everything and when the destruction will come it will not as if you are responsible or not, if you were good or bad at the time when destruction was in the process of creation. It is batter to wake up and make this country as Iqbal dreamt about. Doing something positive will be far better than sitting ad ranting about the things going on. Abusing the politicisions and politics will not do anything, creating a change in ourselves will bring the change. It’s time to ask that if we are ready to let it go the way it is going or the time has come that we have to change ourselves because the biggest problem with us is our bad habits. The day when we will be able to get rid of them, we will be in position to see what Iqbal actually dreamed.

Iqbal was so selfless that he never got chance to live in a free land, the piece of land that we call Pakistan. Iqbal dreamed for us but we are so selfish that we have put this country on the line just to make our own interests be successful. We have done everything to prove this country a failed state but on a personal level, every one of us is trying to be successful.
